The Institut für Geographie of the Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg is looking for a PostDoc within the German Research Foundation (DFG) project “A stochastic estimate of sea level
contribution from glaciers and ice caps using satellite remote sensing”. The project is embedded in the DFG Priority Program (SPP) “Regional Sea Level Change and Society (SeaLevel)”. The
successful candidate will process and analyse TanDEM-X satellite imagery from different regions as well as other remote sensing elevation products in regard to surface elevation changes and
geodetic glacier mass balances of glaciers. Our group has developed processing chains for TanDE;-X satellite data that enable fast processing of larger data volumes. The candidate is
expected to further refine and advance these routines in the framework of the project and apply the techniques to different regions. A close interaction and technical support of PhD students as well as other PostDocs working in related projects is anticipated. She/he will be responsible for the data ordering and analysis, archiving and exchange of project results with national and international project partners as well as reporting and presentation of project results at SPP workshops, conferences and in peer reviewed journals.
Required qualifications:
PhD in remote sensing / geoinformatics, geophysics, physical geography or related disciplines
fluency in English
a demonstrated productive record of publishing in international peer reviewed journals and presenting on international conferences
good programming skills (e.g. R, Python and/or Linux shell)
creativity and the ability to work in a team
experience with SAR remote sensing
Desired qualifications:
basic glaciological knowledge
experience with SAR interferometry
experience with process automatisation and processing of large data amounts
The employment is limited to 24 months due to availability of external project funds with a possibility of extension depending on additional third-party funding. The employment is full time
with 100% of the regular working load. Depending on qualification and personal requirements this position is grouped into Entgelt-/Bes.Gr. E13.
The Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg is seeking to augment the number of women in research and teaching and hence asks female scientists in particular to apply for this position. Handicapped
persons will be preferred in case of equal ability and qualifications. If desired, a member of the equal opportunity office of FAU can participate in the selection process without any disadvantage
for the applicant.
Please submit your full applications including CV, certificates, motivation letter, contact details of 2 persons of reference as one single PDF-file to matthias.h.braun@fau.de (reference: TDX
elevation change).
Deadline for application: as soon as possible, position is open until filled
