Research scientist – fishing technology/fish behaviour – purse seine
The Institute of Marine Research has a vacant position as research scientist in fishing technology and fish behaviour. The position is permanent and in the research group Fish Capture in Bergen, Norway.
The work tasks will mainly be research activities related to fishing technology and management advisory services in relation to purse seine. Tasks related to other fishing gears and works on fish behaviour are also relevant for the position.
In addition, there will be some field work, research cruises and travelling activities.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent competence in fishery biology, fishing technology or similar disciplines. Expertise in fishing gear technology, primarily on purse seine, is a prerequisite for the position.
Experience/expertise within the following disciplines (in prioritized order) is requested:
Experience in fishing with or research on purse seine.
Expertise in data analyses and statistics.
Experience from research cruises.
Expertise on other types of fishing gear.
Experience in behaviour studies related to fishing gear.
Personal characteristics in communication, cooperation, and ability to work independently, efficient, and focused are important criteria. Experience in initiating, planning and carrying out projects are central for the position. Skills in reporting and scientific publication is also a criterion. Applicants who are familiar with Norwegian fisheries are at an advantage.
