University of Gothenburg | Sweden | Deadline: 15 May 2018
The University of Gothenburg is seeking a suitable candidate with a background in microbiology and molecular biology and relevant aquaculture experience who will develop an active research program while also coordinating outreach activities (e.g. coordinating students producing video/film, website design) for a large funded international project that involves several European laboratories, as well as industry partners and research collaborators in the USA and Brazil.

Required skills involve demonstrated leadership and project management experience, competence in scientific communications, and prior academic training in a relevant scientific field (e.g. aquaculture, molecular biology, plant physiology, microbiology, bioengineering, food safety or related fields).

The position is part of a project examining the role of microbial populations in recirculating aquaculture systems, anaerobic digesters, and hydroponics units with the goal of better understanding conditions that will maximise beneficial transfers of microbes and their products among components of decoupled aquaponics systems. Research will involve work on bacterial relationships in biofloc/biofilms and pathogens in aquaponics systems.

This position at the University of Gothenburg requires excellent English speaking and writing proficiency, but does not require EU or Swedish residency as it is open to all international applicants. Candidates must be willing to travel frequently and for extended periods within Europe and overseas. Salary €40,000 or $50,000 USD (after tax) with excellent benefits including health coverage, paid vacation and considerable international travel.
