Sea Turtle Rescue Program Internship

Description: Intern duties consist of 1) care and maintenance of sea turtle patients including diet preparation and feeding, daily observations, and environmental enrichment; 2) giving educational tours of our turtle hospital and helping with educational outreach at offsite locations; 3) assisting with medical care of patients (administering medications and fluids; treating wounds; and helping with routine medical exams, blood work, radiographs, laser therapy, ultrasonography, endoscopies, and surgeries); 4) maintenance of holding tanks and hospital equipment including daily cleaning and upkeep of filtration systems; 5) general cleaning and restocking of the entire hospital area; 6) maintaining detailed records and log books; and 7) assisting in miscellaneous projects (plumbing, painting, research, etc.). Applicants must be conservation-oriented, be able to work independently and demonstrate initiative, be comfortable engaging the general public during tours, be detail oriented, be able to lift 50 pounds, and be willing to work long and/or flexible hours as needed. This job may require long days, weekend shifts and occasional late night or early morning work.

Commitment Required: 30 – 40 hours per week (weekends and evenings may be required) for a four month period

Education Requirements: Major(s): Any natural sciences major (Marine Biology, Conservation Ecology, etc.) Classification: Sophomore, Junior, or Senior (preferred)

Spring: Applications open on September 15 and are due by November 15. Selected applicants will be notified in December. Hired interns start in January.
