Best practices for biogeochemical ocean observation: instrumentation, operation, quality control

Hybrid event – in-person and virtual attendance

Organized by an international group from all around the Atlantic: Europe, US, South America, and Afrika

Biogeochemical measurements in ocean observing systems allow for assessment and sustainable management of oceanic ecosystems, yet they are underrepresented and underutilized. We created a POGO observational training to increase utilization of biogeochemical data sets. We will share our experiences with moored and float biogeochemical sensors made by different projects to train you. Let us grow the biogeochemical observing system together.

Are you an Early Career Scientist? – Awesome, there is some funding available for travel, registration fees and observations (We define Early Career Scientist generally as PhD candidates or Postdocs who received their PhD within the past seven years. Some exceptions may be considered on an individual basis.)

First step

Register for your application to participate in the POGO observational training about “Best practices for biogeochemical ocean observation: instrumentation, operation, quality control” .

Second step

To successfully complete your application send a motivation letter (max 1 DIN A4 page) and a short CV (max 1 DIN A4 page) to kristin.burmeister@sams.ac.uk by 31th March 2022.

The Motivation letter should include

– why you would like to attend

– your research interests

– your experience with programming languages (Python, Matlab, R)

– previous experiences with analyzing in situ observations

– connection to Atlantic observational communities such as (but not limited to): PIRATA, AMOC (ONSAP, RAPIS, MOVE, ODVIDE, TRACOS, SAMOC), BGC-Argo
