The International GEOTRACES Summer School: Introducing Polar Parameters will take place from 10th to 15th July 2022 at the Helmholtz-Centre Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research in Bremerhaven, Germany.

It will offer training possibilities for ~50 students, with a combination of lectures and hands-on training in marine geochemistry of trace elements and their isotopes, including:

  • Polar parameters: sea ice, snow, meltponds
  • Pre-campaign planning and preparation
  • Sampling at sea
  • Sample processing and analysis
  • Data processing and visualization
  • Modeling

The Summer School will include a full day of shipboard sampling of marine trace elements onboard RV Heincke and 1:1 science discussions with renowned experts in the field.

The event is supported by VolkswagenStiftung. Financial support for travel and accommodations will be available for the selected participants.

Apply to the summer school before 15th April 2022

Participation in the GEOTRACES summer school is subject to selection by the Scientific Committee, up to 50 participants. The target audience fro this summer school is mostly PhD students and early Postdocs.

To apply :

1- Click on the “Application” tab available on the left-hand column menu to fill the application form and follow instructions provided.

2- Click on the “Submit” tab available on the left-hand column menu to submit one PDF document containing the following sections:

1:Short curriculum vitae (1 page max)
2:Statement of motivation explaining your interest in the course (750 characters max. spaces included)
3:Short description of current research project (750 characters max. spaces included)
4:Letter of recommendation from first bachelor/master/PhD supervisor or other lecturer who knows you well

When submitting your file, under the step 1 “metadata”, you will be requested to provide a TITLE for the file, please enter your name following the format: <LastName__FirstName_GEOTRACES_SS2022>

Acceptance/refusal of your application will be notified by email by 14th May. If your application is successful, you will have to formally register through the link provided. Selected participants will have to present a poster.
