The interdisciplinary Summer School hosted by ZMT, DIE and the IOI will train around 30 international participants to develop solutions for the sustainable governance of the Ocean. The Summer School will run online from 19-30 September 2022, Online.

Highlights include:

  • An intensive academic program providing a scientific basis from different disciplines (social and natural sciences) to enable you to engage in marine governance. We have invited leading experts from different disciplines and distinguished institutions to work with you.
  • Key Speakers: Awni Behnam, Anna-Katharina Hornidge, Rüdiger Wolfrum, Werner Ekau and many more.
  • Unique opportunity to engage with experienced researchers and practitioners.
  • Meet other international young, visionary scholars and network with other future leaders in ocean governance
  • Course Fees: FREE for eligible candidates – the programme is supported by IOI, ZMT & DIE
  • PROGRAMME: Monday to Friday – 3 hours per day – 13:00 – 14:30 CEST (UTC+2) and 15:00 – 16:30 CEST (UTC+2) .
  • We invite applications from international, early-career scientists (PhD candidates, postdocs) from various disciplines in the field of marine research (biology, chemistry, geology, geography, sociology, political science and related). Representatives of governmental and non-governmental agencies with a relevant scientific background can also apply.                                                                                                                      

Applications from scholars from tropical countries are especially welcomed.

Experience training with the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research in Bremen. Within Germany, ZMT is the only and unique research institute for the study of tropical marine ecosystems and their services to human societies.

The International Ocean Institute (IOI) is a world leading independent, non-governmental non-profit organisation conducting training and capacity building in Ocean Governance with the aim of creating knowledgeable future leaders trained in contemporary approaches to Ocean Governance.

The German Development Institute (DIE) , based in the UN city of Bonn, is one of the world’s leading think tanks and research institutions on issues of global development and international cooperation.
