The main task is to conduct a PhD thesis work under supervision, which includes development of the PhD student`s methodology experience, analytical skills, and theoretical depth and breadth. The studies will include analysis and compilation of results in scientific articles and will lead to the PhD student writing a final summarizing thesis. The PhD student will also present their results at conferences, seminars and at project meetings. As a member of the project team, it is expected that the PhD student communicate and actively collaborate within the group, and reach out to stakeholder and users.

If required for the project, the applicant shall be willing to spend time on research vessels and field stations (also in polar areas). The qualifications for education on a doctoral level are: degree in advanced level, at least 240 ECTS, of which 60 are on an advanced level, or in another way acquired similar knowledge. The education should be in one of the following subject areas: Marine Science (specializing in Physical Oceanography), or Physics (specializing in, or including, fluid dynamics). Applicants are expected to have an excellent working knowledge of both written and spoken English. Applicants should also have good analytical skills and good ability to work independently. Only applicants who are admitted to the postgraduate level may be hired. Upon appointment the degree of ability to successfully complete the PhD program must first be evaluated. Only applicants who are admitted to the PhD program at the Dep. of Marine Sciences may be hired.
