Detection of HABs in Southeast Asia by Remote Sensing: Operational Warning and Regional Monitoring Protocols
The program goals were to provide the trainees with fundamental interdisciplinary knowledge on Harmful Algal Blooms (HAB) dynamics, give them the capability to assess HAB sites using satellite remote sensing technology, design standardized monitoring protocols, provide initial skills and tools required to develop integrated HAB models, and help trainees conceptualize early warning systems for HABs in their home countries. Topics covered during the training programme ranged from physical, to chemical to biological aspects of HABs.
25 participants from Philippines, India, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand were trained to HAB monitoring and modeling at the Bolinao Marine Laboratory in Pangasinan, Philippines from 24 February to 15 March 2014.
