GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel is a foundation under public law jointly financed by the Federal Republic of Germany (90%) and the State of Schleswig-Holstein (10%). It is one of the internationally leading institutions in the field of marine research.
Through our research and our commitment to the transfer of knowledge and technology, we contribute significantly to the preservation of the function and protection of the ocean for future generations. Within the framework of the EU-funded projects “EuroGO-SHIP” and “TRICUSO” we are aiming to develop quality standards in marine CO2 research. The “EuroGO-SHIP” project is about producing so-called “in-house” reference material for dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) and alkalinity (TA) and documenting the processes. In addition, alternative methods for filling these standards are to be investigated. As part of “TRICUSO”, an instrument for measuring the partial pressure of CO2 (pCO2) in surface water is to be evaluated in the laboratory. Weak points are to be identified together with the manufacturer and solutions for improving the device are to be developed. The device is then to be used on a measurement campaign in the Southern Ocean on a sailing yacht and, if necessary, on a research vessel. The data obtained from this will then also be interpreted biogeochemically. Both projects require intensive cooperation with the European project partners. The results achieved are to be published in international specialist journals. Willingness to travel on business and do field work is required.
The research unit “Chemical Oceanography” within the Research Department Marine Biogeochemistry is offering a Postdoc (m/f/d) in marine chemistry, Quality standards in the marine carbonate system (Keyword: CO2-QC), starting on April 1st 2024.
