Spain’s First Marine National Park

Spain has established its first all-marine national park around the island of El Hierro, the farthest south west of the Canary Islands. The new national park, which covers more than 24,000 hectares, will become a sanctuary for a rich array of marine life found nowhere else on the planet. The decision opens up new avenues for scientific research into marine species and the impacts of climate change on marine ecosystems.
