Australia Protects 52% of its Ocean

In a huge environmental win, the Australian government has declared that it will protect more ocean than any other country following a 300,000 square kilometre expansion of a sub-Antarctic marine park. The decision means that the ocean around the Heard and McDonald Islands, a wildlife haven, will be free from mining and the creation of new pelagic fisheries. As such, it will remain one of the places on Earth least disturbed by humans.
