Albatross Becomes Mum at 74

Wisdom, a 74-year-old Laysan albatross and the world’s oldest known bird, has laid an egg with a new mate after her male partner of several decades, Akeakamai, hadn’t returned to their usual nesting spot in years. Wisdom has produced 50 to 60 eggs and as many as 30 offspring over her lifetime. The biologists at Midway Atoll Wildlife Refuge in Hawaii are “optimistic” that the chick will hatch.
