Open position: Ocean Conservationist Coordinator – Deadline 22 October 2021

ORCA’s Purpose:

ORCA are one of the UK’s leading whale and dolphin charities with a mission to give everyone who cares about
whales and dolphins an active role in safeguarding their future. They have coordinated an international network of volunteer
citizen scientists since they were founded in 2001, using ferries and cruise ships as platforms of opportunity to collect critical
data about whales, dolphins and porpoises. ORCA delivers a programme of innovative education and outreach both at-sea and
on land. ORCA Ocean Conservationists work aboard cruise ships and ferries across the world, collecting vital scientific data about
whales and dolphins whilst inspiring guests on ships to show them the wonders of the marine environment.

Role Summary:

Coordinate and deliver ORCA’s at-sea programmes globally, overseeing the logistics and maintaining the highest standards of a unique conservation education programme that operates in partnership with some of the world’s leading cruise and ferry brands.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing the logistics and planning of ORCA’s growing at-sea programmes, including coordinating equipment, assigning Ocean Conservationist teams, supporting travel plans and other activities as required to deliver an exceptional programme
  • Assist in the development of new materials to promote ORCA’s conservation work on cruise ships, ferries and in other arenas and deliver unforgettable wildlife experiences to guests aboard a range of different ships
  • Support and coordinate ORCA Ocean Conservationist teams, ensuring that they deliver consistently high standards during their itineraries and approve the materials they produce for programmes they are allocated
  • Deliver at-sea programmes aboard a number of strategically selected itineraries each year, both individually and in conjunction with other Ocean Conservationists
  • Support the development and maintenance of partnerships with passenger shipping partners, being an important point of contact for corporate partners in planning ORCA’s at-sea programmes
  • Support the training of new Ocean Conservationists, planning and delivering a training programme at sea and being responsible for overseeing other HR administration relating to the recruitment of at-sea staff
  • Assist in other administrative responsibilities related to the charity’s at-sea programmes
  • Supporting other members of the ORCA team where appropriate and as the business requires
