SEArica event: Territorial and regional Contribution to the development of Offshore Renewables and Marine Energies – 28 September 2022, Online

SEArica Chair, MEP Tonino Picula warmly invites you to the SEArica event on territorial and regional contribution to the development of Offshore Renewables and Marine Energies taking place online on Wednesday 28 September 2022 from 09:30 to 12:00 (Brussels time).

Considering the current geopolitical situation, which demonstrates the need to achieve a greater energy autonomy in Europe and accelerate the energy transition, phasing out unsustainable sources, it is relevant to address questions and remove obstacles to the development of renewable energies. In particular, as evidenced in the EU’s Blue Growth Strategy, the Offshore Renewable Energy Strategy, the Blue Economy Report 2022, and the REPowerEU Communication published in May 2022, Offshore Renewable Energies (ORE) have an important role to play.

More research and investments are necessary to foster the development of offshore wind energy and to exploit the full potential of emerging sectors, such as ocean energy, while ensuring a sustainable use of natural resources and the protection of the marine environment.

With this event, the SEArica Intergroup aims at showcasing the contribution of the ORE sector to energy transition and discussing together with representatives from the EU institutions, regional authorities and relevant stakeholders about how to boost its development at EU level, overcoming current challenges and barriers.

Please find attached the draft Agenda.

Hosted by SEArica Chair MEP Tonino Picula with the participation of Mr Christos Economou, Deputy Director MARE A and Head of Unit for Sea Basin Strategies, Maritime Regional Cooperation and Maritime Security, DG MARE.

The event is organised in the framework of the Seas, Rivers, Islands and Coastal Areas (SEArica) Intergroup of the European Parliament, together with the support of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions.
