The main objective of the course is to provide students with insights into global marine monitoring programs that explore biodiversity in coastal ecosystems, where marine life and people are concentrated and interact most. This course aims to teach the coastal monitoring programs of the Marine Global Earth Observatory (MarineGEO), as well as introduce common methods for monitoring the biodiversity of coastal ecosystems, with a particular focus on seagrass.
Therefore, special sessions will be held to implement holistic protocols to monitor seagrass beds. Through fieldwork within the seagrass beds of Puerto Aldea (Coquimbo area), sampling protocols will be applied as well as identification and taxonomy of the main groups of invertebrate species associated.
