Open position: Technology Transfer Manager for International Cooperation – Deadline 11 February 2025

Background

Data and information based on ocean observations are of great importance for understanding and predicting the state of our oceans and their role in global climate and marine processes. Without this ocean observation, we cannot use and preserve the ocean sustainably. Nevertheless, data from direct observation is not available in sufficient density and quality. With the Helmholtz innovation platform SOOP (Shaping an Ocean of Possibilities), we want to improve this situation in the long term.

SOOP was initiated in 2023 by the German Polar and Marine Research Centres GEOMAR, AWI and Hereon and aims to promote and enable socially relevant technology transfer in the field of ocean observation. SOOP establishes an international network of research institutes, companies and other stakeholders, including the Global South. Through the co-development of easy-to-use technological solutions and the establishment of active measurement networks outside the traditional scientific field, a broad social utilization of the obtained ocean observation data is to be made possible. SOOP intends to become an active interface between all such partners. SOOP will initially be funded for a limited period of time to initiate, test and standardize new, partly open-source innovation processes and structures. After the start-up phase, we are now moving into the implementation phase and want to create the basis for a long-term perspective for SOOP.

The advertised position is based at the AWI Technology Transfer Office and aims to acquire and provide operational support for collaborations between SOOP, companies and users during the implementation phase.
