We seek to appoint a highly talented and motivated postdoctoral research associate with a proven track-record of excellence in molecular microbiology and in particular expertise in development of genetic manipulation procedures for previously unchartered strains.

The successful candidate will join the multidisciplinary research group of Dr Rebecca Goss at the University of St Andrews, as part of a team exploring the manipulation of biosynthetic pathways using combined synthetic biology and synthetic chemistry approaches. Focusing on previously unchartered marine microbes you will be responsible for developing procedures for their genetic manipulation. You will have an excellent track record and have completed or be completing a PhD with a major component being the genetic manipulation and investigation of bacteria, with your results published or pending publication in leading international scientific journals.

You will have an excellent and an advanced practical knowledge of molecular microbiology methodologies, excellent skills in bacterial manipulation, cosmid (or bac) library generation and heterologous expression. You will be innovative and quick to master new skills and techniques. You will be a good team worker with excellent communication skills and leadership potential.

Strong experience in the manipulation of marine microbes, excellent writing skills and experience in the preparation of manuscripts, including supporting information, for publication would be an advantage. The post is fixed term initially for one year, with the possibility of extension to two years, and will start as soon as possible.
