Abstract:
This presentation introduces the audience to the world of underwater sound. Contrary to common belief, the deep ocean is a noisy place, as sound travels very long distances underwater, and reaches depths that light does not penetrate to. It provides an overview of different types of sound that can be heard underwater, both man-made and natural. The presenter can play recordings of different sounds directly from the websites that are provided, which adds an interactive and fun component, especially for younger audiences.
