Open position: Student assistant in the field of marine food web modeling – Deadline when position is filled

Background

The Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (Wadden Sea Station) is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for a Student Assistant in the field of Marine Food Web Modeling. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented student to join our dynamic team, contributing to cutting-edge research in marine trophic ecology. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in food modeling.

Tasks

As a Student Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the development and refinement of marine food web models. data analysis and interpretation related to marine species interactions and energy flow.
  • Supporting the organization and maintenance of research databases.
  • Participating in working group meetings and contributing to discussions on research progress and challenges.
  • Collaborating with the research team to integrate empirical data into existing models. Assisting in the preparation of research reports, presentations, and publications.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Marine Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Good knowledge of statistical modeling.
  • Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., Excel, R, ArcGIS).
  • Basic analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills in English.

Further Information

The place of employment will be AWI’s wadden Sea station on sylt, Germany, but it is not mandatory and can be done remotely.

Work time: flexible by arrangement

Start: December, 2024 (four months position)
