About the position
We are now pleased to offer a newly created and exciting position as protected area manager for the Lopphavet. This is a position that will suit you who have a great commitment to the sea and marine natural diversity. We are looking for you who have expertise in nature and who want to work with the management of a conservation area, both independently and in collaboration with others.
The position is an office job, but there will be some traveling and inspection out in the field. Your office location will either be in Alta, Loppa or Hasvik municipality.
A politically appointed board is responsible for managing the Lopphavet marine conservation area. The person employed must manage the conservation area in consultation with the board.
The tasks are:
- professional adviser and secretary to the board
- management according to the conservation regulations and the Natural Diversity Act
- manage mapping for an increased knowledge base
- prepare a management plan and follow this up with information, care and facilitation
- dissemination of the conservation area and preparation of information material
- work in databases and GIS
- inspections in the field and external operations
The work will involve extensive collaboration with local and regional authorities, user interests, the research environment, rights holders and organisations.
The administrator will also be in contact with the State Administrator in Troms and Finnmark, the State Nature Inspectorate, the Coastal Administration, the Norwegian Environment Agency and the Sami Parliament.

Salary as adviser/senior adviser in code 1434/1364, from NOK 548,600 to NOK 745,000 gross per year in the Government’s salary regulations, depending on qualifications. The trial period is six months. As a government employee, you automatically become a member of the State pension fund (2% is deducted from your salary).

Who are we looking for?
To be considered for this position, you must haveÂ
- master’s degree in natural sciences from university or college, preferably marine biology. The requirement for education can be offset by long and relevant professional experience
- good communication and communication skills in Norwegian, in writing and orally
- ability to collaborate and work independently and purposefully
- car licence

About the workplace
The State Administrator is the King’s and the Government’s foremost representative in the counties. We are responsible for informing about government policy and implementing action plans. The state administrator in Troms and Finnmark has around 240 employees and is organized into seven departments and a staff. The main seat is in Vadsø. We also have offices in Tromsø, Kautokeino, Karasjok and Andselv. In addition, we have personnel responsibility for twelve national park managers who have offices near the national parks.
The state administrator in Troms and Finnmark is the largest office in the country in terms of area. We work with an area that is twice as large as Nordland county. Troms and Finnmark have borders with three countries – Finland, Russia and Sweden. These are some of the reasons why it is exciting to work here in the far north.
