Artificial intelligence has the potential to revolutionise scientific discovery, accelerate research progress, boost innovation and improve researchers’ productivity. The EU must take hold of the opportunities this brings, and in a timely way. But it must also respond to the challenges and risks associated with this fast-evolving technology.
The Scientific Advice Mechanism to the European Commission has published new scientific advice on the best use of AI in science. This advice comes in response to a request from Margrethe Vestager, Executive Vice-President for a Europe Fit for the Digital Age. The advice is non-binding but may feed into the overall Commission strategy for AI in research and innovation.
