The animal was spotted off the coast of Cape Cod earlier this month, in waters where the species has not been seen for more than 200 years. Melting Arctic ice allowed the grey whale to navigate through the Northwest Passage, which connects the Atlantic with the Pacific through Canada. Could this sighting herald the return of the grey whale to the Atlantic after their long absence? Find out more on National Geographic.
