Lab Technician – Caribbean Octocoral research

LAB TECHNICIAN – Octocoral Research – University at Buffalo
A full-time position is available in the laboratory of Howard Lasker working on population and community ecology of Caribbean octocorals. The work will be conducted in Buffalo with biannual field trips. The technician will be responsible for maintaining a laboratory database, conducting image analyses of benthic survey images and colony growth experiments, conducting preliminary statistical analyses, assisting in fieldwork that will include collecting samples, population surveys and monitoring recruitment experiments. The work also will include general laboratory tasks such as maintaining stock supplies, record keeping, ordering supplies, and supervising undergraduate students.  Fieldwork will involve research diving from research vessels or small boats and the assistant must be able to meet University at Buffalo and AAUS standards for certification as a research diver and have a minimum of 25 logged open water dives. Familiarity with databases, excel and statistical packages is requ
ired.
