Applications are welcome for a fixed term (2.5 years) Postdoctoral
Physical Oceanographer position in Hydrodynamic Data Assimilation. The
position is based with the Coastal and Regional Oceanography group, within
the School of Mathematics and Statistics in the Faculty of Science, UNSW
Australia (www.oceanography.unsw.edu.au). The objective of the project is
to design and assess an optimized data assimilation system to improve
state-estimation and prediction of ocean dynamics along Australia’s highly
populated east coast. The research team will also work closely with
industry partner MetOcean Solutions (NZ MetService Group) to develop
operational (real-time) ocean data products for end users.

The minimum qualifications for a successful application must include:

– A PhD and documented research experience in physical oceanography or
related field;

– Outstanding expertise with hydrodynamic models (preferably ROMS);

– Experience in Data Assimilation techniques;

– Excellent programming ability, including proficiency in Fortran, Matlab
or Python, and NetCDF; and experience working in a Linux environment;

– Strong scientific writing skills in English, as evidenced by
publications in internationally recognized, high ranking, peer-reviewed
journals.
