Coastal Flood Modeller – Flanders, Belgium

Antea Group is an international engineering and environmental
consulting firm specializing in full-service solutions in the fields
of environment, infrastructure, urban planning and water. The work of
our Belgian Business Unit Water is focused on coastal zone management,
water management systems, flood forecasting, water policy, surface and
groundwater modeling, urban water, dredging projects and sediment
management.
Because of the expansion of our activities in Flanders and worldwide,
we are offering a permanent contract in Belgium for an experienced
“coastal flood modeller” candidate who wants to apply his or her
commercial and scientific skills to the engineering & consulting
industry. This position provides the opportunity to explore interests,
develop professional skills and solve complex problems. Working
alongside other experts, you will have the opportunity to contribute
ideas and build technical knowledge in both office and field work
settings.
Your role
You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team working in Antwerp for
our client Hydraulics Laboratory on a variety of marine and coastal
engineering related projects involving at least one of the following
segments:
•        Coastal storm surge hazard analyses for the Flemish coast,
including wave overtopping and dike breach;
•        Studies related to coastal zone management ,coastal
engineering, marine environment including climate change;
•        Reporting technical activities and findings, giving
presentations to different audiences;
•        Present scientific output on international conferences,
prepare journal papers;
•        Develop software tools.
Your profile
•        University degree; holder of a master’s degree in engineering;
•        Holder of a PhD degree in an engineering discipline or
applied sciences, with a focus on marine, coastal and estuarine
systems;
•        At least 5 years experience, this experience can be only
academic or mixed with commercial;
•        Your mother tongue is English or Dutch or you are very fluent
in English or Dutch;
•        You have a strong background in the numerical modelling and a
talent in programming;
•        You have good understanding of several of following fields:
1.      Experience with Mike Software; preferably some experience
with Mike Flood;
2.      Experience with wave overtopping;
3.      Knowledge of Eurotop is an asset;
4.      Knowledge of Matlab, Python is an asset.
•        You have at least 5 publications the last 3 years in the
above mentioned fields (in A1 peer reviewed journals or at renowned
conferences) , among which at least 3 as first author;
•        Experience in Flanders of the Netherlands is an added value;
•        Ambition to quickly boost and share your expertise in this
field in an international scene;
•        You are technologically literate, an organizer and strive for
quality and accuracy;
•        You are eager to demonstrate your skills in a competitive environment;
•        You are willing to carry out a part of your work at a
location other than our offices, either in Belgium or abroad (e.g. in
the framework of an international project);
•        You are available at short notice (next months).
In addition to the required technical skills we are looking for a team
player. Our new employee will think and plan along with our integrated
water assignments.
