The +ATLANTIC CoLAB, Association for an Atlantic Collaborative Laboratory, is launching a call for tenders for a Master for technical execution in the sub-domain data science, according to the procedures described below.

1 Admission Requirements

Candidates should hold a master’s degree (Grade 7) in Electronic and Computer Engineering, Computer Science or Software Engineering, Information Management, Computer Science (or similar). Candidates with a foreign degree or diploma must present the evidence of recognition of the academic degree after the selection under the terms of Decree-Law No. 66/2018. The spoken and written fluency of the Portuguese and English languages is a necessary condition for admission. Candidates should evidence knowledge in Data Visualization and Data Sciences.

2 Differentiation factors

Other requirements will be valued such as:

  • Experience in front end web development and languages such as HTML, JavaScript, CSS or equivalent
  • Knowledge in web mapping frameworks like Leaflet and OpenLayers
  • Knowledge of version control tools like GIT
  • Knowledge of Python or R will be valued
  • Knowledge of databases like postgresql or mongodb will be valued
  • Knowledge of geoserver and OGC will be valued
  • Knowledge of data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes will be valued
  • Experience in working with multidimensional scientific data (e.g., HDF, netCDF, geoJSON) will be valued
  • Experience with Pandas, Scikit, plotly and Matplotlib frameworks will be valued
  • Knowledge of cloud technologies (AWS, Azure,GCP) will be valued

3 Responsibilities and duties

The candidate’s main role will be to design, develop and maintain user-friendly data/information visualization systems, dashboards, web platforms, etc. The candidate will be part of the Data Science/ Visualisation team. Examples of activities to be developed, include:

  • Debugging, tracing and testing/correcting processes to code
  • Design, research, and development of tools necessary for the processing and analysis of data and results of +ATLANTIC. Maintenance of these tools, making them available to other +ATLANTIC teams and resources

4 Submission of the application

5 Deadline for submission of applications

The competition will be open until 15 January 2023.

6 Ranking of applications

Applications will be ranked based on CV evaluation and, if deemed necessary by the selection board, an interview will be held. In all cases, the adequacy of the candidate’s profile to the functions/activities to be performed will be considered, namely as regards the academic background and alignment of the training area/specialization, and professional experience (quantity and relevance).

7 Notification of results

The result of the evaluation will be sent to all candidates by e-mail. The +ATLANTIC CoLAB is free to fill the position or not and may suspend or terminate the process at any time by informing all candidates. Selected candidates can be expected to receive notification within
15 days after the end of the competition.

8 Remuneration status

The remuneration associated with the provision of the work corresponds to the gross basic monthly amount of EUR 1,800. This is a reference value, which may be adjusted to the specific profile and experience of the candidate to be admitted.

9 Place of work

The work will be carried out on the premises of the +ATLANTIC CoLAB, or other locations necessary for the execution of activities.

10 Legislation applicable at the time of signing the contract
