PhD Position on on marine microflora compounds for medical applications – Deadline 15 August 2022

PhD Thesis Description

The thesis project will focus on research and development of new therapeutic agents based on natural compounds isolated from Moroccan marine microalgae to be valorized for dermo-cosmeceutical application for their potential use for treatment of chronic wounds, burns and the stimulation of damaged tissues regeneration.  The project will be based on the in vitro and in vivo pharmacological and biological activities investigations

The experiments on the isolation, culture and molecular characterization of marine microalgae will be performed. The isolated biomolecules will be screened for their potential wound healing stimulation of skin regeneration proprieties and anti-inflammatory proprieties. Study of mechanism of action of the active marine microalgae extracts/compounds will also be elucidated. The PhD student will work within the ISSB-P, AGBS and UM6P-MAScIR Foundation

CRITERIA REQUIREMENTS OF THE CANDIDATE

• Master’s degree or engineering degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology/ Biological engineering /algal biotechnology
• Experience with relevant laboratory techniques : Cell culture, colorimetric methods, molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qRT-PCR), Biochemical and cellular Biology techniques : Proteins extractions, Western blotting, flow cytometry
• Microalgae culture and Extraction /purification of natural compounds (valuable but not required)
• Excellent organizational skills
• High motivation, teamwork capabilities,
• English communication skills required

• Academic records: certified copies of the diplomas (with detailed transcripts)

• The research project proposal (2 – 3 pages): The writing of a research proposal (2 to 3 pages) on the subject specifying its scope, the questions asked, the research hypotheses, the theoretical and conceptual field of investigation, the potential repercussions for the benefit of UM6P, Morocco or Africa.

The review committee will verify that the proposed project aligns with the candidate’s background and experience, and then rank the applications based on excellence to invite the top-ranked applicants for an interview (Oral presentation and/or written test).
