Do you want to see the sea from your office and contribute to the dynamic Royal Dutch Institute for Sea Research? Then this is your chance! NIOZ is looking for a Front-end developer to strengthen the ICT team.

THE INSTITUTE

NIOZ, the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research, is the national oceanographic institute and the center of expertise of the Netherlands for the ocean, sea and coast. We promote fundamental understanding of marine systems, the way they change, the role they play in climate and biodiversity and how they can provide sustainable solutions to the society of the future.
A total of approximately 350 colleagues from more than 30 nationalities work at NIOZ, divided between the main branch on Texel and a department in Yerseke.

THE CANDIDATE

We are looking for candidates who:

  • have extensive experience in developing and improving a user interface, preferably data-oriented,  have extensive experience in developing,
  • improving and evaluating user experiences of interfaces and are experienced in the use and application of the following techniques:

HTML/CSS + Tailwind (or similar framework),
React, NextJS, Vite or Kotlin as a development framework
Javascript/Typescript,
version control (Git),
‘Testing and Fetching’ from a RESTful API,
‘server-side rendering’ and ‘browser optimization’.

We are looking for a candidate with good communication skills, a solution-oriented attitude and, above all, someone who gets satisfaction from developing a product that fully meets the needs of the user.

The work will mainly be carried out within the NIOZ-ICT team on Texel, but is part of a broader collaboration with the team at Utrecht University.

A Dutch/European passport or work permit in the Netherlands is required for this position.

THE CONDITIONS

  • An appointment at NIOZ is an appointment at NWO-I, for a period of 1 year for 40 hours per week.
  • A fair classification in scale 10 in accordance with the collective labor agreement-WVOI, integration into the scale depends on your work experience and education level and direction.
  • The freedom to fulfill your role and space and opportunities for your personal (talent) development, including with the help of the NIOZ Academy.
  • 338 vacation hours per year of a full-time working week of 40 hours.
  • Pension scheme through ABP, 8% holiday pay in May and an end-of-year bonus in December of 8.33%.
  • 2nd class travel by public transport is 100% reimbursed.
  • An employment conditions arrangement whereby salary can be exchanged for days off or vice versa, or you can use salary or leave hours once every 5 years to purchase a bicycle with a tax benefit.
  • We work hybridly to strive for a good balance. Working from home facilities are made possible; think of a laptop and permanent workplace and a home work allowance per day of 3.05.
