Purpose

With significant experience of working in social media, you will understand how to develop content and communicate stories in an engaging way. You will know how to grow a strong following for the organization across social media platforms and with different audience groups, and how to work with media colleagues on complimentary social media activity. We are writing a new social media strategy, which you will be part of creating and deliver. You will have a passion for social media, while understanding the opportunities and challenges that this role entails. You will be flexible and enjoy working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, where the ability to respond swiftly to changing organizational and team needs is essential.

The BAS Communications team covers a wide remit of activities, and you will have the chance to get involved in publishing news stories, evaluating campaigns, public engagement events and lots more. Duties & Responsibilities

  • Day-to-day management of BAS’ social media channels, creating and publishing compelling content across all digital channels (website and social media platforms – Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, Instagram and Linked In)
  • Running/contribute to campaigns involving content creation to engage the public via social media channels
  • Contribute to and deliver a refreshed social media strategy for BAS
  • Monitor and evaluate social media performance, and contribute to evaluation reports of all communications activities (media and public engagement)
  • Follow emerging trends and changes across social media platforms to inform planning and content creation
  • Monitor and engage with stakeholders’ social media platforms and mentions of BAS or its staff
  • Work collaboratively with our digital ambassadors and staff, and our parent bodies NERC and UKRI to plan and deliver social media content plans
  • Develop and proactively coordinate communications for BAS, ensuring that it is accessible and effective in reaching its target internal and external audience
  • Be part of the press office in helping to manage media enquiries
  • Out of hours and on call media cover will be required
  • Some overseas travel, including to Antarctica, may be necessary that requires good levels of personal fitness

Qualifications

  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent professional experience.
  • At least two years recent social media experience in a professional setting, and knowledge of the evolving social media landscape/tools

Essential skills, qualifications, and experience

  • Experience of working in a professional setting for at least two years creating and managing content for social media, including video
  • Demonstrable experience managing (corporate/business) social media accounts
  • Excellent written skills
  • Some experience of using social media channels for incident management
  • Experience of scheduling and evaluating social media content and performance using analytics tools such as
  • Meltwater (or equivalent) and Google Analytics
  • Experience of working with digital platforms like WordPress
  • Knowledge of SEO best practice
