Postdoc Opportunity
We seek applicants for a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in the new Training Our Future Ocean Leaders (Ocean Leaders) program at the University of British Columbia (UBC). The new program consists of 9 core faculty and 27 collaborators with interests in climate change, coupled human and natural systems, ocean acidification, marine conservation, marine ecology, fisheries science, and marine spatial planning. Its goal is to train interdisciplinary marine scientists to translate technical knowledge into policy and management innovations for the ocean.
Preference will be given to candidates with bold ideas, demonstrated research ability, strong communication skills, and a willingness to think across disciplinary boundaries. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct original research on core ocean challenges, foster interactions within the training program, and contribute to workshop development. Postdoctoral fellows funded by the program are expected to interact with multiple lab groups. Potential applicants are welcome to contact potential faculty advisors to inquire about current and potential research activities.
Interested candidates should provide their curriculum vitae, three letters of reference, and a two-page statement of their scientific goals and societal interests. The statement should include how their interests and proposed work aligns with two or more of the faculty members’ research or expertise.
Starting date: October 1, 2016
Application documents and reference letters should be sent electronically to ocean.leaders@ubc.ca; reference letters must be sent directly by the referee. The deadline for the receipt of application materials is August 1, 2016.
UBC hires on the basis of merit and is committed to employment equity. We encourage all qualified candidates to apply.
