The Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera, I.P. (IPMA) opens a call, within 10 days from the date of publication of this announcement, to award one Research Grant for a person with a MSc degree in the frame of the project “Sistema Nacional de Monitorização de Moluscos bivalves – Algarve” SNMB – Algarve, funded by the MAR2020 programm.

Main research field: Biology

Sub research field: Marine Biology, Marine Biology and Fisheries, Biology or equivalent.

Admission requirements: The ideal candidate must have a MSc in Marine Biology, Marine Biology and Fisheries, Biology or equivalent, and must have obligatorily 10 years of experience on studies concerning benthic macrofauna.

Work plan: a) collection and treatment of benthic samples and bivalves onboard research and/or fishing vessels; b) Sort of benthic samples; c) Identification of benthic species; d) Determination of sediment granulometry, organic matter, water content and carbonates; e) Statistical analysis of data; f) Participation on the writing of interim reports and final report of the project.

Value of monthly maintenance allowance: According to the table of research grants in force, according to the rules of FCT and IPMA (980€).

Workplace: The work will be developed at the DivRP, at the IPMA Olhão, under the supervision of Dr. Miguel Gaspar.

Duration of the grant: The scholarship will have duration of 6 months and is foreseen to begin on 1st January 2017, eventually renewable.

Academic education: MSc in Marine Biology, Marine Biology and Fisheries, Biology or equivalent.

Methods and selection criteria: Only candidates that have a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in projects related to benthic macrofauna will be admitted. The criteria that will be applied are the following: A – Experience in sampling benthic communities, namely sample sorting and identification of the species present in samples (30%) – 2 values by project up to 20 values; B – Ample knowledge on the bivalve species that occur along the Portuguese coast with participation on monitoring surveys with a minimum duration of 10 days (30%) – 4 values by project up to 20 values; C – Experience in the analysis of sediment namely in the determination of sediment granulometry, organic matter, water content and carbonates (30%) – 4 values by project up to 20 values; D – Scientific articles published in peer-reviewed journals in the research field of the conquest (10%) – 2 values by scientific article up to 20 values. An interview will be carried to all candidates that will attain a CV classification higher than 15 values. The interview will have a weight of 50% and will be classified according to the following criteria: A – Expression and discourse ability (30%); B – Motivation, knowledge and personal interests (40%); C – Ability to work in a team and own initiative (30%). For each of the criteria defined for the interview the following score will be applied: Insufficient – 5 values; Sufficient – 10 values; Good – 13 values; Very Good – 17 values; Excellent – 20 values.
