The presentations will be held the 24th and 25th January, 8:00 PM Rome (GMT+1). Each webinar day includes 2 panels, round of questions and final discussion. The estimated duration for each day is 1h15mins.

Within the Network MMMPA-WWF (co-coordinated by NOAA) we are pleased to announce a webinar series on “Engaging Stakeholders to Influence MPAs Policy”. These webinars are co-organized by Dr. David Cabana and Dr. Patricia Marti-Puig with the collaboration of the NOAA expert Anne Walton.
The presentation will be held on the 24th and 25th January at 8.00PM Rome (GMT+1). Each webinar day (2 panels + questions + discussion) will last approx. 1h and 15 min. We expect your active participation with questions and discussion!
• 24th January:
-1st panel: “The Science of Marine Reserves, publications as a science tool to inform policy” by Dr. Kirsten Grorud-Colvert.
-2nd panel: “The multi-stakeholder policy process for the creation of the Galapagos Marine Reserve in 1998” by Pippa Heylings.
• 25th January:
-1st panel: “The job behind the negotiations for the Antarctic MPA agreement” By Dr. Stefan Hain.
-2nd panel: “Bottom up: The role played by the traditional Hawaiian community for the expansion and creation of the largest MPA in the world” by Angelo Villagomez.
Expected Outcomes
• A better understanding of the role that different stakeholders can play in order to engage policy makers.
• An understanding of further approaches for improving relationships and promoting active and effective engagement between scientist and policy makers.
• The stakeholder’s engagement work behind different cultural, social and political situations.
• An understanding of how to involve stakeholders in MPA planning and management
• How to empower local communities to influence decision making in MPAs.
